Chronic pain

I found this site by searching the following: Depressed tired hurting.... That is how I got here. I am 42 years old and because of a birth defect, I have been suffering chronic pain since I was about 19. I am just so very tired! For about 20 years I used a homeopathic form of pain control. Mostly because I was acused of being a drug addict, when really what I wanted was RELIEF! Recently, I have started on Norco. Not necessarily a NEW LEASE ON LIFE, but it has allowed me to do more, and be more normal. I cry as I write this because I am SO worried that my doc isnt going to refill my Rx. Its a very big possibility, and I am SO worried. Does this make me a drug addict? I dont think so. I think it makes me a person who enjoys time off from pain!?! I call later today to try and find out why it has taken 2 days to call in the script. So Scared, So depressed, So down, So beaten....

I generally dont complain, it gets me nowhere. So I feel awful doing it here. But, no one understands, not the kids, not the friends, not my husband, not my parents, NO ONE!

  • Hi and welcome to Spine Health. You will find a lot of very friendly and helpful people here.

Are you seeing a pain management doctor? If not you need to get one asap!

I am sorry no one understands the pain, I know it can be very frustrating. I also don't like to complain. We can look fine on the outside, but be feeling miserable on the inside.

Does your pain stem from neck or back issues? Or nerve issues?

Another surgery in the near future. I am 26 years old.

Current Meds- Norco 7.5/325, Cymbalta 60mg, Gabapentin, Adderall 20mg
  • I was born with a severely clubbed foot, which caused a large leg length discrepancy (6 inches), causing scoliosis, sciatica, osteoarthritis, chronic tendinitis, sacroilitis, neuropathy, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, herniated discs in my lower back. I am sure there is more.... But honestly, I think thats enough for now..... My pain is mainly the joints below my waist, ALL of them.... I have seen a pain specialist who offered me injections. Problem is because this is all mechanical, and will not be changing in the future, the shots only last a couple of weeks, and you can only have SO many in a year. I have also been in and failed in physical therapy as well.

..pain management doctor who may not renew your meds?

With my pain doc..sometimes injections..but he keeps me from losing my mind with daily med routine. I have found him to be most understanding.

If your pain doc won't renew meds..maybe you need new doctor. Just a thought.

And depression can happen as we struggle with these chronic pain stuff...so not sure if seeing doc for that might help you also.

I know it's not easy. It's a lonely place, suffering and trying to take care of yourself and communicate with doctors. But I would encourage you to continue to say how you are still feeling pain. It's not that you failed PT.. it just didn't work for you.

Everything so try and try again. And we understand you and the pain. Visit here anytime...vent.. whatever. You're not alone.

  • It does sound like you have alot going on and i agree what the others have said . Make sure you talk to your doc about depression possibility because some pain / antidepressives work well in reducing your pain . Chronic pain changes our chemistry in the brain and makes it easy to get depressed . Pretty much we all have in some form . Sometimes I had the same feeling regarding why it took long to fill meds but had talk with dr who said he needs to see me every three months for pain assessment and I was forgetting it so I schedule next appt before I had left dr office and no problem since . Good luck and see you around here sometime .
  • Diomache, welcome to sh, I'm so sorry you are dealing with so much pain. Pain can so easily isolate, defeat and depress you and because of this it is important to find a medical team that is working for your best interest. You need to find a doctor that understands your pain and is willing to do what they can to treat it. For me my primary care doctor is who prescribes all my meds and it works out well, but for others its their pain management doc. or even surgeon, whoever this may be for you,its important to find them.

I have gone through so many doctors and surgeons in the last four years and it has been exhausting, but I now have a great team to help treat my pain. By far right now my physical therapist is the one that knows my day to day issues and has been wonderful in either fixing them, or getting me the help I need. I went through three pt's to get to this one and I, like you, have been discharged by others because they couldnt help me. This pt worked on massaging and doing mild stretching with me for two months before she even started me on any real pt.

I now have a primary care doctor, surgeon, physical therapist, pain management doctor, and pain psychologist (my surgeon referred me to most of these) who all are great and looking out for my best interest. I would encourage you to keep fighting until you find the right doctor.

Best of luck and please keep us informed on whats going on..............Mitch
