I was the firt person on oxy contin and oxycodone in my state back in 95 or 96 my doctor was told I could not get hooked and could just keep upping my dose so b4 long I was on 720mg a day all told. I moved out of stae and was told my last pain doc turned me into a heroin addict ( I can see that now) so after 12 operations including pain pumps and stimulaters I am back on drugs because after 28 operations I refuse to have them cut into me again. now to the question sorry it took so long I am allergic to morphine and suffered on that for 4 years also methadone will not stay down no matter what I try so I am back on oxy but this doctor will not go above 60 mg tid and 10 mg diazapam qd now he plans to move me to something else and go back to 10 mg tid but my question is what can he use to get me off the oxycontin to start the cycle all over again ???

Does any body have any advise or suggestions ??

  • What kind of doctor is managing your medications? Is it a pain management doc? Although the shots no longer help me, she knows about new and different medications.

I hope you have relief soon.

    4 level ACDF C4-C7 5-2-11, laminectomy & discectomy L4-L5 1/26/12, ALIF L4-5, L5-S1 12/10/12.
  • sometimes your body just needs to be off of pain meds for a bit of time for them to start helping again. I've found that myself. My body seems to get used to pain meds very quickly and they're upping the dosage and it doesn't help.I have been taken off medications for a period of a month or so and then put back on again and its like i've never had them before. Maybe you just need to start taking things that you took back at the beginning of your pain.Just a thought.
  • it is a pain doctor that I am seeing and going off the meds all together is out of the question at this point without them I cant do a thing other then lay in bed the pain is so severe that even with the meds I cant stand in front of my sink or even walk more than 10-20 steps without going into such bad spasms and severe pain that I need to lay down again I have been on SSI for a while now thank god but as a veteran I am able to only see 1 doctor and he keeps pushing surgery yet again and to me and that is out of the question it took almost 90 min to just get a tube in me last time to put me to sleep and if you ask me I look like frankenstein already I am full of scars from head to toe
  • I could not imagine 28 surgeries! I am so sorry you have went through all this.

If you were to ask me what I would suggest having only the info you posted here, I would say - that you need to be seen and cared for by a very good pain specialist.

Your situation as far as I understand it does sound unique.

Please do keep us updated how you are doing :)
