My husband went in for C5/6 Fusion....the neurosurgeon while tapping in the allograf she tapped to deep and broke of the superior end plate of C5 and it was digging into his spinal cord.( i only know this because I read her Oprative)
She immedeately removed the broken off bone pc and added other medicines to help with swelling...... she came out and told me that my husband had weak bones and when he was woken he was having some weakness in his legs and that she had ordered an emergent MRI to look for a possible blood clot ( this was at 12:20 in the afternoon).( added note... she never told me what actually happen in the OR.... I only learned of it weeks later when I read the Oprative report).. at 1:45 pm I saw the doctor in the hall I asked,
" what happen with the MRI as no one had taked with me yet...." ( we both work in the medical field and are aware that MRI only takes give or take 40 minutes.... At any rate the doctor had answered me with, " the MRI is scheduled for 2pm" ( not so emergent ?) and that she was heading to her office ( yes she left the hospital ) and would look at the MRI when she returned ..At 2:20 I was called back to the recovery room where I saw my husband for the first time since earlier that morning.... what I saw was not weakness he was unable to move his legs or right arm and could barely move his left arm and no movement of his hands or fingers....I asked what the MRI showed and the nurse stated he still had not had the MRI the hospital was under construction and that the transport people had gotten lost and then went to the wrong place...I demanded that they take him down immediately... MRI never took place until 3:40 pm and at 4:40 he was in a catscan and the doctor was explaining to me that she was going to have to reopen up my husband and remove the blood clot that the MRI showed and then would have to flip him over and remove bone to allow for swelling..... My husband was never brought back into surgery until almost 5 pm and was not done until 9:10pm and when he finally was moved into ICU he still had no feeling in his legs hands or fingers......this was almost 2 months ago..... We have contacted an attorney .... My problem is that medical suits can take years and currently I have to start shelling out BIG bucks.... Any ideas ?
