PEEK cage advantages and disadvantages for ACDF?

I'm scheduled for a 1 level ACDF surgery at C5/C6. I am choosing between 2 surgeons - both are top notch in their field. One is insisting on using a PEEK cage in the surgery. The other insists that all surgeries he's done with a allograft (from a cadaver) bone have fused well. Can anyone please offer any opinions on the disadvantages and advantages of PEEK cages over an allograft spacer? I am really confused and any help would be really appreciated! THANK YOU

  • My surgeon says he never uses cadevar bone, and most surgeons don't these days. Its outdated procedure. My surgeon used a titanium caged packed with bone growth material and shavings of my own bone from the surrounding vertebrae. I do not know if I am fused yet though... My next xrays are in May.

I would probably go with the doctor that is using the PEEK cages.
