I was prescribed Neurontin, but used it rarely because I preferred Tramadol.

Now I would like to try neurontin, because tramadol is doing only a partial job of relieving my sciatic pain.

What kind of side effects are possible from neurontin, and can the benefits of neurontin outweigh the benefits of taking it??

I take Nuerotin for my sciatic nerve and it works wonders for me. If I forget to take the meds my nerve fires back up. For me it controls the pain of sciatia. The down side to this drug for me has been weight gain. It has caused me to gain about 25lbs but for me it is worth it
  • Hi Julie :H ,

Any questions I have regarding drugs, their side effects, or interactions with my other meds, I ask either my pain mgmt dr or my pharmacist. I have also gone online and done a search for that medication and have bookmarked a couple of sites that explain all about the drug. I know a lot of the pharmacy websites have a Drug Information link you can click on, too. Just click on link, type in or select drug name and information will be forthcoming. Just remember that the information given is a general overview and NOT all of it applies to you or your situation. In many instances, the drug is prescribed for other uses than one certain condition for which it was developed. I have one website I particularly like. Hope this helps :)

  • Asking your pharmacist or pain doctor only works if they have taken the medication personally.

I posted this for a reason--I want to hear from people who have actually taken neurontin. That is worth more than talking to a pharmacist or pain doctor who may or may not have taken the medication you are asking about.

That is the flaw in general with asking questions of your doctor. He or she is o.k. but probably not been in "the trenches" the way someone with issues similiar to has and is in a better position to give you advice.
