When I had my surgery Feb 2nd I left the hospital with a perscription for 80 valium as a muscle relaxant. It was a 2mg tablet and I could take 2 1/2 pills every 6 hrs. I dont like to feel "drugged or out of it" so after the first couple of days home I just took 1 2mg tablet every 6 hrs. When I went for my 10 day follow up, I got a refill because if everything goes OK I will not see my surgeon for a month and his office is 90 mins away. I picked up my new perscription, declined the consult because I had already been taking them. I finished my first bottle and went to take a pill out of the new bottle and noticed it was slightly different in color (pale yellow instead of white.)
I had throw the other bottle away so I couldnt compare them but called the pharmacy to ask why it was different. Apparently my Dr wrote the new perscription for a 5mg tablet instead of a 2mg. He never mentioned it to me at the visit and I even told him I was only taking one 2mg pill at a time. Had I been a little more out of it or not had my glasses on, I wouldnt have noticed the slight difference in color. Luckily I would have still only taken 1, which is the same as the max I am allowed to take, but I imagine if I had taken 2 1/2 pills like I COULD have, I would have been atleast very sedated! So..check your pills when you get a refill, just to be on the safe side and if you dont see really well (I wear reading glasses and still could hardly read the numbers on the pills) have someone else check just to make sure. I kind of think I should call the surgeons office and mention it, I can cut the 5 mg in half and its only a little more than I have been taking, but I really would rather have the same strength I am used to.
