S1 and C4-5 bulging/herniations Will DiscoGel Work?

I was in a car wreck and the pain never got better. After a year of screwing and around and awful suffering I was able to get an MRI. It revealed a central and paracentral herniation at C 4-5 and a herniation in the S1 joint. They sent me for PT which probably made it worse. Had 2 ESI that didn't help much. Have a TENS unit and am doped up most of the time. Was given Neurontin which is a horror drug.

Now they are talking fusion. My cousin who is a surgical nurse says to avoid a fusion at all costs. He suggested a partial discectomy done through a canula.

I recently read about something called DiscoGel injections but they don't do it here in the states.

Has anyone had the DiscoGel procedure?

  • Hi Marvin-

Sorry to hear about your accident, and fusion would scare me as well. I had never heard of Disco Gel, but after looking it up I am curious as well. The demos make it looke like it could work - the principal sounds reasonable. If it has been in use for 7 years, it should be available here soon enough.

Anyone ever used it? I don't know that it would help me, but it sounds like it may help someone with newer injuries.
  • I know several people who had fusions and only one had a good outcome. The others are worse off.
