Lumbar Schwannoma Surgery (And Laminectomy)

lawgirllawgirl Posts: 1
Hi all,

I just discovered this forum. I have been having lower extremity/back pains for almost a year, and I had a quick MRI and discovered I had cauda equina syndrome caused by a 25x13x12mm mass in my L2/L3 area. The neurosurgeon says it's more than likely a schwannoma, so I've got surgery scheduled in 2 weeks.

Has anyone had any experience with this type of surgery, and can offer some idea of what the recovery is like? My doctor says the surgery is 3 hours long, and I'll be in the hospital for 4 days. I'll also be off work for 6-12 weeks. I'm just wondering if there are things to expect during the recovery.

  • hello lawgirl... i have 3 levels of issues but have not had surgery at this time ces for me has been ruled out... can u please tell me your symtoms? any saddle numbness with back pain or just backpain.... also what type of suggery did he say he was doing?? I would imagine he is just gonna remove the mass.. Do u have DDD or congential stenosis??

    Take care
