Methocarbomol is NOT for older folks?

Cherry2012CCherry2012 Posts: 7
Thanks all for the responses and concerns on my previous thread, .... 'Name for the nerve pain in the thigh of my leg .....'

One more thing I need to ask is that,
I've been taking Methocarbomol 500 mg. tib for my muscle spasm/cramp of my leg. Mostly, it occurs in the middle part of calf of my leg during sleep. It works good without any side-effects.

Recently, I've been getting the Muscle cramp/spasm more often during the sleep, then I plan to ask my dr. 750 mg. instead 500 mg.

However, I read Methocarbomol is NOT for older folks. This warning concerns me a great deal.

I'd truly appreciate it if you could share an experience and any insights on this med.

  • Hi Cherry 2012 :H ,

I am not sure how old "older folks" means, but I was taking 750mg 1-2 tablets (every 8 hrs). I am 63 yrs old. I took it for about 4-6 months. The only reason dr switched me was that methocarbmol was not relieving my pain but only for a short time. Every one's body is different, so what works for you may not work for me. My pain is all cervical and I have been waging my war going on 6 years now. It took trying a couple different muscle relaxers before I found one that (so far) is doing the job. I would suggest asking your doctor and/or your pharmacist. Hope this helps.
