Hello , my name is Jan. I am 50 and until october 2011 worked for my local council as a dog warden which I loved !
I had a bad fall on black ice in december 2009,which resulted in a protruding disc which in turn set off / accelerated lumbar stenosis, degenerative disc, sciactic nerve problems and cocyx problems. I kept working til june 2011 but it was becoming impossible to walk the 5-7 miles a day and drive the van, just getting in and out was difficult and i tried just office work but could not sit for more 10 - 15 minutes,so in october sadly i was medically retired..i have found the loss of my physical ability the hardest to deal with.
24/7 pain in buttocks left leg and lower spine, with pain attacks .No surgery suggested.Use meds ,tiger balm, pain pen, tens machine, exercise, relaxtion and internet :)

welcome to S.H. forums where you'll find many in the same situation as you. Including me. Having to Med out of a job that I loved. And lose my physical health and ability was very hard to do. So I hope you can find a lot of people you can identify with.

  • I went off work due to similar reasons as yourself when I was 47 4 years ago. I still do the icing on the back and use my infrared heating pad which has really helped during a flare up. I find getting out for a walk a few times a week is helpful just to go down by the lake to enjoy the ducks, swans and then go for a coffee pretty well a lot of my only entertainment.

Have you tried inferential treatments at all? They are similar to TENS but much more effective. I go to a Chiropractor to have this done and he does no adjustments but I know Physiotherapist can do this also.

Have you tried warm water therapy with a PT yet? Anyway I find this a good place to come the past few years since I stopped working and good to get support from people who get what you're talking about. Take care. Charry
