i have been having a new type of pain, down rt leg from bottom of butt to top of know. it feels exactly like the pain from a herniated disc. i went to my back dr and had a new mri. mri showed nothing bad and i had a little stenosis but nothing to write home about said the dr. he wanted to check my hip also so i had back flexion x-rays along with hip. went to a hip dr and surprise surprise, it is not a hip problem. the flexion back x-rays show the top of the last fusion L3 and the screws seem loose. the bone of the disc is rubbing against the bottom bone. There should not be rubbing, there should be a clear area between spaces of disc. he thinks that the screws lose and the bone rubbing might be causing the pain. i asked him if stenosis is not bad why do i have all of the symptoms of stenosis, bent over when walking, and unable to walk more than 50 yrd. he is hesitant about more surgery, since i have had 4 back surgeries. pain is getting more severe, so do i risk pain getting worse with more surgery and not solving the problem or do i have surgery and hope it solves pain issue? i hate to have more surgery, 5 back surgeries is a lot to handle. i go visit him today. any suggestions?
I have 4 fusions from L5-3, the latest last May '12 where they fixed my disc that broke. They went through my side this time. I take 40 mg of oxycontin 4x a day and 4 fenatyl lollipops 300 micro gms 4x a day.
