Hi All -
I haven't posted here for a while but hoping for some input.
After suffering for 10 months from severe low back pain and terrible muscle spasms running up my entire right back, (Low back up to neck) from a Central Lumbar Disc Herniation (L5/S1) I found a surgeon willing to try a microdiscectomy on me. B/C my herniation was fully central, I did not suffer from sciatica.
Post surgery, the muscle spasms went away immediately, which was great. However, I am 6 weeks out and have low back pain just as bad as ever. I cannot sit for any length of time or stand. (As before.) I'm at the end of my rope trying to co-run a business in chronic pain for a year and not really able to work at normal capacity. I still need to take narcotic pain killers just to get through the work day.
I am blessed with a great husband who has had to deal with handling all household and other tasks and a wife in constant pain. We have an amazing daughter who is heading to college in 5 months who I have not been able to spend any real time with for a year. Things at my business have been going bananas. (Assistant quit 1.5 weeks after surgery, insane clients, tons of stress, etc.)
Initially I was told 4 - 6 weeks for the pain to go away. I saw my surgeon last week and he said it could take months now. He told me I had a large herniation that broke through the posterior ligament.
All I know, is my low back pain is not better. Work is torture still and I'm sick of living on pain pills. I just want my life back or some indication of improvement with the pain.
Has anyone else here suffered from a Central Herniation or had a long recovery from this kind of procedure? I went with a top surgeon at the best rated Ortho hospital in the country.
Thanks for listening.
