I can "feel" the disc

I am now 9 weeks post op adr L5/s1. Recovery, pain wise is not so great.Besides the pain I wanted to see if others have felt their disc, or hardware depending on how they sit.

When I sit in my recliner, or lie on my back in bed, I can feel my new disc in my back... Or at least that is what it feels like. It feels like a block of something is pushing on my spine when I lean my back against something. It is not neccesarily a painful thing, but rather uncomfortable.

Do you think that this feeling will go away, or will I get used to it and not notice it as much?

  • Hi Karen  I recently, as in the past 2 - 3 weeks have been able to "feel" something sticking outwards from my spine area, right about at the bottom of bra line.

I am pretty much getting blown off by my Dr about it as he can't feel it. BUT I know something is different.

Sorry I can't be of help to you as mine is not from surgery but at least you know your not imagining it ;)
L1 - S2 "gone" useless in 1 way or another. DDD. RA. Bone Spurs. Tons of nerve damage/issues. Stenosis. Both knees replaced. 50 yrs old. I had a great fall (hence my user name) at age 41 and it has been a domino effect every since.
  • I would not worry about the slight bulge on the outside, As long as you dont have severe leg pain or nerve pain you are recovering prety good,

My recovery was prety fast after adr surgery but the nerve pain was something new that never went away,

So as long as you dont have my symptoms you should do ok hopefully,

    Best of luck,
