I'm scheduled to have a discectomy in 3 weeks and I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice and/or success stories or even the opposite unsuccess stories. I'm terrified of making things worse and really don't want this surgery to be a death sentence for my back! please help, thanks!

  • Hi rwcurt,
I have just had my second discectomy 10 days ago and so far all is well. My first one was a success, and I have no doubt this one will be good too. The post-op pain has always been less than I expected, the recovery has been faster than expected.

I'm a 58 year old male and these surgeries have not been a death sentence for my back, as you said. Just the opposite. They are bringing me back to life, allowing me to work etc. Glad to answer any questions if I can.
