This saturday will be 6 months since my TLIF. I feel great! I actually went running yesterday (only for a short bit) for the first time since I ruptured the disc back in Dec of 08. I had a microdiscectomy in March of 09. It worked for a few months but the pain returned. I was a firefighter during this time, so im sure that didnt help. Anyway, i ruptured the disc again March of 2011. Worst pain of my life, couldnt stand straight or walk more then 10 yards. Horrific pain. I new i had to do something, so i started researching options. I spent about 45,604 hours online, visited about 6 surgeons. Finally was faced with two options. Have another discectomy or get it fused. I went with the fusion for reasons i will share if anyone is interested.
To make a really long story short, i have been in hell every since the first injury in 08 until NOW. I really feel great. I have had some bad days, which mainly just consists of soreness in the muscle they went threw if i over do things. I definately know ive had spine surgery. However its night and day from before. No nerve pain at all. I work out 4-5 days a week. Swim, walk, use the stairmaster, all kinds of things.
My recovery even in the early months was really, really great. So i was told by others. I credit most of that to the surgeon. I cannot explain how amazing the man is. He has a special method of doing the TLIF. If anoyone is near Jacksonville just send me a private message and I will tell you all about him. Anyway, just thought id give an update and send a positive message out into the universe. Hope everyone feels better soon.
