I have had pain in my neck and back for years and years, but it was not until last year that I was told it was operable and I needed to have surgery soon on my neck, and then on my lumbar. I had an ACDF C3-7 last May and a laminectomy and discectomy on L4-L5 in January. In determining what surgery to do on my L spine, my surgeon told me that the L4-L5 was the worst, but other discs don't look great. He talked to me about my scoliosis. He said he wanted to be conservative and only address the one level because if my other discs get worse, he'd have to do a major surgery and put in rods and pins because of the scoliosis.
Is there anything I can do to try to prevent this or slow down the degeneration?
I understand the pain down the leg and low back, etc., but when I am active or sitting a long time in a hard chair, I get widespread back pain that feels like it is also going around into my ribs. Have any of you heard such a thing?
Thanks for any insight or advice.
