Hi
I have just had my 3rd microdiscectomy. I have had L3/4 - L5/S1 now operated on. My last operation hasnt been as successful as hoped and consultant has told me there was some mobility of my spine...which means i may need fusion. Consultant is unsure where abouts to do it, with L4/5 being my weakest part!!!! Anybody else had the same problems? All information will be greatly received. I am chocked, confused and angry. I am only 6 weeks post op tomorrow!

Many Thanks in advance.

  • HI Claire,

First let me say welcome to spine-health. Have a look around and you will find others whom have multiple surgeries and each with varying degrees of results. Keep in mind it might pay to get multiple opinions. Have they set you up for new films at this point and time? I most certainly think they will need them if another surgery is needed. At 6 weeks you are still vary early in the recovery, but you also know your body the best.

It sounds as though they have operated on different levels? There are nerve blocks they can do which will allow them to block out different areas and see how you respond to them. That might help in aiding which part of your spine is the worst are causing you problems. Keep in mind that more is not always better when fusing as you will loose the motion in that area of the spine.

Just thought I would stop by and welcome you to spine-health. Look forward to reading more of your post.
