Fluid around nerve head

I am 3 mo post op from a L5 S1 laminectomy. For the past 3 weeks I have had the return of nerve symptons that I had prior to surgery. Burning in the buttock with my foot and ankle going numb and tingling. I had an MRI done yesterday and it revealed fluid around the nerve head. Neuro surgeon said to let it go for 3 months and see if it goes away. He said to increase my physical activiy. I was a runner prior to surgery and Dr. said to start slowly running again. His words were "let's try and shake this up." He did say there are things he could do but he wants to wait for 6 months post op to see what happens. I have taken Neurotin -which does help with the pain - but it makes me way too spacey to continue taking. Has anyone else had this happen? If so what has been your experience with it and what did you do?
