So angry at PM

I think because I was insistent on being referred to a neuro surgeon after everything PM tried failed must have pissed them off. I talked to the PM nurse yesterday and told her I'm getting little to no relief and is there anything they can do. She replied "no there really isn't, that's why we refered you to the surgeon". What a liar, first they reluctantly referred me, second I'm not a moron, I know more can be done with medication. Then she had the nerve to say "after your proceedure if you want to call and schedule a follow up with us we will be here". If I do need PM post-surgery it sure as hell will not be with them. I'm tired of being treated like my pain is not significant enough to warrant some modification to my meds. Sorry to vent but I'm in pain and infuriated.

  • Well sometimes pain is realy hard to control and every pain specialist is diferent,

I am on my 4 th pain specialist after i took my mom to this new pain specialist for her stenosis and while waiting while she was having injection i talked to the head nurse, She worked for other pain dr,s in the area and swore this is the best and most caring dr she worked for,

She was aware i am receiving treatment by another pain dr for more serious failed back surgery and convinced me to come and change dr,s as he dont treat you like you are just a # in there assembly line,

I no longer have to wait for hours in a waiting room as it kills me to sit for long time and i feel as if i have to beg to get some sort of help,

So if you are not happy with the people working at your dr,s office and dr dont seem to be too great for your needs, Its sometimes good to find a beter pain specialist,

    Good luck,

  • I agree but you have to be careful in how you do it and what you say. Some will get the idea that you are just shopping for pills. I've only been to two and the second one wanted, and did, start me off on a very minimal baseline drug course even though I came in on much higher drugs. Until they get to know you, meaning they have done many procedures, it can be tough to get proper help.
  • I have been with them for a fairly long time have had multiple injections with them. I have never asked for a specific med. Only time in the past they change anything was when I told them I was not getting lasting relief and they bumped my 7.5 hydros to 10s. That was with no problem at all and I was a very new patient at that time. I have had urine test, have not ran out of meds before they were due refills, I feel I was a responsible person with my meds. I really feel like they did not like the fact that I pushed to be refered to a neuro. I think it is sad that honest people have to suffer needlessly for what ever the cause, whether the dr is worried about abusers, or has others issues.

  • Because I am suffering and they do not care.

  • New grip somewhat connected.
I have been getting Orbivan from my GP for quite some time for horrific headaches that are an added bonus to pain flares. Yesterday was one of those days and I had one pill left but I endured the pain because I was not sure if my refill would be ready yesterday. I get an email from Walgreens saying it was filled. I logged into my account at Walgreens to verify, and yes my Orbivan was filled. I took my last one and headed out in a thunderstorm to pick up my script.
I go to the counter and the cranky older pharmacist, that treats customer like crap most of the time, looks and says no I do not have anything for you. I told her I received an email stating that my Orbivan was ready for pick up. She says, “oh yeah the Orbivan that’s for pain so that should be prescribed by you pain Dr”. I told her “not only have I been getting this from my GP, I made it a point on my first visit with the pain Dr to let him know my GP was prescribing this for my headaches, and he said that is fine”. She said” well I talk to the nurse at the pain Dr and she agreed that they should be the ones prescribing this med so you will have to wait and see if they approve it”.
As soon as I got home I called Walgreens regional customer service office and proceeded to rip some poor lady up one side and down the other. I did not use any profanity, but I was not nice at all. She prepared a report to be sent up the chain of command, gave me a claim # and said someone would be contacting me during office hours.
This happened last night and I am still fuming over it. I tried to post this last night but I was shaking so bad that I could not type.
  • Well now you sounds as you are pissed off at everyone involved, The pain dr now the pharmacist,

Sounds to me as the pharmacist is looking out for your best interest to have no bad reaction of mixing medication from 2 diferent dr,s,

If the head aches come with pain the pain specialist could prescribe all of your meds as he has taken resposibility for the medicarions you take,

The more dr,s you have involved in your prescription drugs the more complicated you are making things,

Having 1 dr prescribing you medications could make your life much easier, He might even change medications that can help both the regular pain and the head ache all in 1'

If your not happy with your pain specialist find another 1. If you dont like the pharmacy you using change to another 1'. Simple fix,

Sometimes we cant blame others for when we ourself is half ass backwards!

    Good luck,

  • Actually my pain dr knew all along that my gp was prescribing me this med (I believe I ststed that earlier). Plus the last PM I had when I told them that I was having head aches every time I have pain flares they told me "we don't treat head aches".

Anyway Walgreens contacted and me and said that should have never happened because my medication history shows that this has been going on for two years.

And about this PM. I am getting almost zero relief and they told me that there was nothing more they can do (as I stated earlier)so yes being im pain when I do not need to be pisses me off. I have surgery in one week and would have liked to not suffer the entire week.

Before jumping to conclusion make sure you know the facts. Thanks have a nice day!

  • Well you could be right i guess, If your pain dr has known about the other medication then his prescription for you should be taking in to consideration you are taking something else already on a regular basis just as others might be geting high blood pressure medications along with many other meds from other dr,s ,

I think the problem only becomes when its any kind of pain medication when it comes in to the pharmacist and they see pain meds coming in from 2 diferent dr,s causes them some concern,

When they called your pain dr,s nurse she should of confirmed yes they know about it and its all good and nothing to worry about,

So in a way the blame realy falls on your pain specialist office saying its not ok,

So i might have jumped the gun so i apologize for that !

I just assumed you was going to be pissed off at the mail man next and then the dog and the cat,

Just find a beter pain specialist before your surgery who can help you posibly after your surgery if needed that is willing to handle all your medications,

Best of luck with your surgery,

  • No biggie Alex. I agree that the Pain clinic is partly at fault as well as the specific pharmacist. I talked to the nurse at the PM clinic and she said that they were not checking up on me, that the pharmacist alerted them to it. So if I've been getting this prescribed all this time and someone just now alerted them to it, either all the other pharmacist failed to follow proceedure, or this one rouge pharmacist takes it on herself to police her customers meds. This is a pretty large pharmacy so I doubt they have that many people too lazy to follow proceedure.
The kicker is they did not get it straightened out, so I am still out of this med. So Friday evening when I found out they did not get it straight, after they told me they would, I made another call to their regional customer service.
Just so you understand a little about me. In my 48 years on this earth do you know how many times I've called and complained about a service? Two, both last week. I am a really laid back person, it takes a lot to get me angry to the point of lashing out.
All I can say at this point is, thank God my surgery is this Friday...
  • Didnt know what orbivan was and I figured the Pharmacist was in the wrong. But it seems Orbivan includes a barbiturate, a highly narcotic depressant. Seeing this medication mixed with opiates, with two different prescribing doctors would Definitely be a Red Flag for a pharmacist, no doubt about it. This would be a redflag, not for just trying to deter junkies or whatever, but also to ensure your safety. So to legally cover their ass, the pharmacist should call both doctors to make sure the prescription is right and they are both aware of it, so no blame should fall of the pharm.

Though if your PM were aware of it they shouldnt have said otherwise. So it seems your PM doctor are really the ones that screwed it up. Were they unaware Orbivan contained a barbiturate? or knew and wanted your other doc to prescribe anyway?

Either way the PM obviously made a mistake, not the pharm.

You should get an app and sit down and talk to your PM and explain all these issues youve expressed here and if you still arent happy with them, simply find a new a doctor.
  • My only problem with the pharm is it never raised a red flag in the past. And I would have not cared in the past if it did, but my pain has been at an all time high so I was not very tolerant of others.
I just think my pm is too large with too many drs and too many on staff, so communication is an issue. If the specific dr I told did not right it in my chart then it would not matter.
If I do need pm after my surgery I'm going to go to a physiatrist. I have read others on here that seem very happy with this route.
Yesterday the pharm and both drs got everything straight and I now have much needed relief. :-C

...gives you your much needed pain relief...and or signigicant lessening of pain.

For me, my irritablity and impatience with others is also a symptom of the severity of pain. I would think docs would take that into consideration, also.

For me, getting a little therapy to feel understood..at least in part...helped so much to reduce my anger.

Again, best of luck to you with your surgery. Please keep us posted.
