After 7 weeks of sciatica and lower back pain, I finally broke down and got an MRI. I've tried PT, massage, chirp, oral steroids, and icing with some relief. The kicker was a relapse for no known reason.
The report showed mild to moderate regenerative disc disease of L4-L5. Also a large extrusion and protrusion of L4-L5 that may possibly (I say definitely) impinging on the nerve root.
I'm being referred by my family Dr to the "spine guys ". Per my insurance, I have to see a medical spine specialist first. They'll try to exhaust all conservative measures before surgery. I'm all for this. How often do "large " go away? I still need to live but don't want surgery.
Thoughts or experiences?
Thanks in advance.
