Had two level spinal fusion L4 - S1 with rods and screws in 1999. The original damage was in 1980 (a bad fall while snow skiing) - I persevered for nearly 20 years with many different and also alternative treatments but discs were bulging and pain was unbearable so finally got up enough courage for the op. The fusion worked very well and I was able to lead a relatively normal and active life (should have had it done years earlier). However, while playing table tennis early 2011 fell backwards into a steel post and have had back pain and foot and leg numbness since then. Became much worse after physiotherapy. Following Xrays, CT scan and MRI found L3-4 disc is protruding 'significantly' into spinal canal and Dr advises this needs to be fixed fairly urgently. This will involve removing previous hardware and inserting 3 level structure. Would appreciate any advice on post-op rehab, exercise, physio etc. and also likely recovery time. OK, I'll give up table tennis.
