Hi All - New here. I'll try and give you the cliff notes version! I'm 36, F, mom of 3 kids. I've had upper back pain on the left for about 3 years. Earlier it was intermittent and I'd usually assume a kidney infection, go to the doc, get pain meds and antibiotics and not follow up. 2 years ago, I started having digestive problems. Nausea, vomitting, back pain constant and abdominal/rib pain all on my left. Some days were better than others but I ALWAYS had the back pain. The last year pain radiates down my left arm, I get numbness, up my neck, back of my head, headaches and sometimes shooting down my hip, leg, lower abdomen. I first saw my OB, who found a cyst. It resolved, but still had pain, nausea, vomitting. After an LP surgery in Dec, found nothing, referred for a full GI workup. Based on the symptoms, he thought chronic pancreatitis, so I gave up all alcohol, quit smoking, took pancreatic meds - felt better eating (I can't eat more than a few bites of food without nausea and feeling full). Upper GI showed gastritis, EUS showed no pancreatitis so he stopped that and labeled IBS. I never complained of bowel issues - my main problem was PAIN, nausea and vomiting, weight loss. My OB was sympathetic and was treating my pain till april, my GI would not do anything for pain. Another test showed borderline gastroparesis (stomach doesn't empty at a normal rate, causing fullness, bloating, pain, nausea, vomitting) but he wouldn't diagnose or change anything or still help with pain. Fed up I went back to my OB, who told me to go to my primary doc for a new GI referral (my GI also told me to go to the primary doc to rule out another cause for the pain like kidney infection, stones, etc). Xrays showed nothing. Primary doc wouldn't treat pain until he did tests to see what might be causing it. I had an MRI almost 2 weeks ago - thinking it was an abdominal MRI. It was thoracic and showed DDD on disc t6-t7 with right paracentral disc bulge. Got results in the mail and called on call nurse since they tried to reach me and didn't follow instructions to call my fiance to discuss (I'm deaf, he's hearing) and said they tried calling my cell phone. Told me to go to Urgent care with the paperwork to get pain medication and then call them tuesday morning.
I was prescribed Ultram, percoset and Robaxin - enough to last till Tuesday. I had my neighbor call so they could call in a regular prescription or make an appointment. They didn't schedule an appointment for me, but said they're referring me to a neurosurgeon. With my pain managed I finally felt normal again, got my house clean, laundry folded, and it is so nice to not need to be in bed or on the couch all the time.
I'm still confused though, because of the stomach problems and eating problems I have - could this be because of the bulging disc? I never expected the MRI to show that - all of my blood work, tests, CT scans have been normal with the exception of the gastric emptying. I don't have a gallbladder but the pain to me feels like that all the time, just always towards my back - not surface back pain like muscle, but deeper.
Right now they put me on Norco 5/325 3 times a day. This doesn't seem to work as well as the percoset of the same dosage though - I'm just so frustrated and tired of being sick and in pain and forget what normal feels like.
Sorry for the rambling post and thanks for any advice you can offer.
