some more info i am 20 years old and i have no insurance so getting medications i need or getting anything done about this is a struggle if anyone knows of insurance or some way for me to see a specialist let me know.
  • Are your parents living and do either of them have insurance? You can get on theirs as an adult and stay on until the age of 26 if needed.

This should be your first focus. If they are not around or both are not working...then going to your state's local Social Security offices to look into getting into the pool of insurance that may be offered.

How did you get diagnosed 3 years ago? Who's insurance were you on then or who paid for the Dr?

Otherwise, look online in your area for free medical clinics/dentists who offer free or very discounted services to those in need.

I would hope that either/both parents, another relative or even a friend could help you out financially to at least get to another Dr. appt. which would only cost $75 to $100. And then if they need to put you on a nerve pain medication for the neuralgia....there is generic Neurontin which is called Gabapentin. This is very cheap.

The main thing to take now is anything that can help inflammation so Advils. As well as make sure you are taking care of your teeth and there isn't any infection by brushing 2-3 times a day as well as flossing and using mouthwash that has flouride and such.

As well as using ice packs when you have a pain flare.

Just trying to name all the things that you can do until you can get to see an actual Dr. again...
  • If you want to connect with others who have trigeminal neuralgia, come to Facial Pain Network, an online support group for facial pain patients and caregivers from TNA The Facial Pain Association. http://fpa-support.ning.com
Also, here is TNA's Facebook page: http://facebook.com/facialpainassociation
There's help and hope for you. I know you have a lot of questions, but there are people who care and can help point you in the right direction. I'm so sorry you're in pain!
