Cervical Fusion (multiple) post op ?

I'm new here, and I'm sure this has been asked, but I didn't see the exact post.
Can anyone relate?
I had C3-C4, C4-C5 fusion and partial Disceckomy on May 10th.
My pre-op pain was primarily right side trapezious muscle, with pain radiating down my Right side Lat muscle and some radiating pain down back side of right arm.
On bad days, I would get same symptoms on the left side of body as well.
Post op pain as follows:
A different kind of pain radiating down right arm. My right lat still flares up from time to time. Also, my right side trap muscle gets sore at times.
BUT, I noticed on monday that I was pain free from the time I woke up untill about 4 pm. Then some of my post op symptoms occured.
I try not to do anything strenuous, I work 8 hours a day at a desk, and I am going for physical therapy 3 times a week.
My nuerologist says everything sounds normal, and nerves take 1-2 months to heal from the compression they were under pre-op.
I am nervous the flare ups in my traps and or lats will never subside. I think I could deal with the Lat pain more then the Trapezious pain. The Trap pain is quite dehabilitating, as any of you know who have experienced it.
The trap pain prevents me from doing many activities I used to do.
I am 34 yr old male, and the idea of a life like this is scary.
Has anyone experienced similair symptoms with recovery, regarldess of procedure?

  • Oh, and it was anterior procedure.
And for guys who had anterior procedure, when did you start shaving again witha straight razor?
  • Hi Zeus, I'm sorry I don't know some of your lingo. After my cervical surgery I did develop bad pain in my shoulder blade which I didn't have before. I saw my surgeon and he reviewed my MRI/xrays and examined the area. He explained that the muscles near my shoulder blade were in spasm and pushing on the nerve in the area. He massaged it some and it felt a bit better.

    Take care.
