I have been suffering from sciatica pain for 3.5 years. I have a pinched nerve at L5/S1 leaving me with excruciating pain at the beginning. My whole body was shaking and I was almost in hyperventilation. I could not walk properly for nearly 6 months. I also have bulge disc on L2/L3 and protrusion disc on L4/L5.
My right calf muscles have shrunk so much and so as my right side back muscles (around my waist).
Numbness in my right sole is always there 24/7, 365 days times 3.5 years. Some days I feel great but some days I don't, my right leg can become limpy and tired after only walking for about 200 meters.
I only used the conservative method to avoid surgery at all cost. Surgery really terrifies me. It can become a snowball, one surgery after another.
Sometimes, I get electric shooting pain whenever I sit in front of a computer. The electric shooting pain also occurred in the early dawn of the day while still lying in bed.
About 2 weeks ago, the electric shooting episode was quite bad...it run for 5 hours long while I was lying down the whole time. By the time I got up, I noticed the numbness in my right sole got heavier (thicker).
I got really depressed because I thought all the effort of doing the stretching and core strengthening will somehow make the disc shift to the center. But it didn't turn out the way I expected.
I have not been able to look for a job because I just can't sit in front of a computer for long...every 15 minutes or so I would have to get up and walk to release the pins and needles. It is just so uncomfortable.
Having this pain has completely changed my life....I was a very independent person and losing that independence really put me down...I have lost big opportunity for my career...and each day I am worrying how am I able to cope in the next 10 years time.
Can anyone here tell me, will numbness ever go away? How to make it go away?
Thank you very much.
