Barefoot shoes?

I originally joined this forum after having surgery for a herniated disc L4-L5 in 2007 when I was 25. 5 years later I am lucky to be (knock on wood) mostly pain free. I have found that: swimming is great exercise for me, yoga is beneficial, but running I need to be careful with.

I recently purchased some 'barefoot' shoes (Merrell dash glove) which are lightweight and super comfortable. I've been wearing them around and like them, my question is - has anyone with back pain here had experience with minimalist shoes, specially doing running or hiking in them?
