I just joined, and I want to say hello to anyone that is reading this post. I read a little of the posts about spinal fusions, but I am having a surgery soon, and needed some positive feedback on anyone that has had this. I am not scared, I just want my pain to go away.
I have a torn disc, which is herniated, and have been through everything before considering this. I have done stretching, chiropratic, cortizone injections, pain blocks, just had a discogram done. My Dr, I think is very good. He has been doing this for 25 yrs, owns the minimally invasive spine center, with outpatient, and inpatient rooms, and even has designed his own cage, to replace the disc. He gave me 2 options, and that was to go in, outpatient, and remove part of the disc that is bulging, but could not guarantee that it would be effective, or to have this surgery, which he said would be 80% effective if it fuses correctly. I am currently on pain meds, but I do not want to be on them forever. Before this all happened to me, I was in the gym everyday, either running, or lifting weights. I found out that it was actually the treadmill that made this happen to me. My lower right side of my back hurts constantly, and I have noticed for a time, I have a lead foot so to speak, like I have to pick it up from time to time in my right leg, mostly when I am walking fast or running. Yesterday, I just experienced front thigh pain shooting down the front of my leg, so I do not know if this is getting worse, but thinking so. I am 38 yrs old, and I feel I still have life to live, and want to get back in the routine of the gym and eating healthy and taking care of my body once again. I know now I will not run on the treadmill for a hour a day, every day. I am willing to give this 100% of effort on my part. I am somewhat depressed, as I had to cancel my membership from the gym, as I will be down for awhile. I live by myself, my son is in and out, but I have wonderful neighbors that has already told me that they will cook for me, and whatever I need they will help out.
I would like to know what to expect when I get there, and afterwards so I can prepare myself mentally and physically for this. Any feedback would be great.
