I have a type of spondyloarthritis (possibly AS or psoriatic arthritis....nobody can say for sure), and have always had trouble with tendinitis, whether it be in my hands, shoulders, or elbows. Most recently, though, I developed I.T. band tendinitis, and I have to say that this particular pain is probably the worst of all. It kind of snuck up on me, in that I had been suffering from terrible bilateral knee pain for a couple of months, and didn't know why but assumed it was just an arthritis flare. In the meantime, we went on a camping trip with our family and did a lot of hiking; after a few days, both legs from the hip to the knee (anterior) were in excruciating pain, and trying to walk uphill or downhill was exceptionally painful.
For the past month, I have been resting/raising my legs, icing my knees, quads and I.T. bands, using various forms of rollers and massage on my I.T. bands and taking anti-inflammatories when I am able. My physiotherapist figures I also have bursitis in my hips, and my quads are also very sore, so I'm doing my stretching and strengthening; the only thing that really made a noticeable difference was a one week, low dose course of prednisone. Unfortunately, I've been off it for almost a week now, and the pain has returned with a vengeance. I bought a can of 'fast freeze', which feels good when it's first sprayed on, but it doesn't tend to last very long.
Has anybody else who has arthritis struggled with similar tendinitis issues? If so, did anything in particular give you relief? I have been careful not to overdo my exercising, but I do need to keep moving,
