Like to start exercising

I was in a car accident several years ago and did something to my neck that caused me to lose much of the strength to my arms. It involved the spinal nerve roots exiting my spine. I am not quite clear on the details. The nerve issues have mostly healed but I do have decreased sensation on parts of my hand, and my arms are still really weak, one more than the other. I have also suffered from chronic very stiff muscles in my neck, upper part of my back by my "angel wing". This is worsened with exercising. I also injured my lower back, but that doesn't hurt me anymore unless I stand way too long on a hard surface or walk a lot.

I really want to start exercising again, specifically for strength but I have horrible form when I do because of the muscle weakness, and I also have ligament laxity. It's a horrible combination. I do realize it could be worse and I'm thankful for what I can do. I do think I'd feel better if I got some exercise in. Can anyone recommend a good DVD for exercise or book for people with similar issues? I was in physical therapy for 6 months and again for 2 months to try to deal with the weakness and tightness, and the pain has subsided significantly but I still hurt majorly sometimes. Thanks!

  • Do you have somewhere around you where they do aqua classes? Could be at a fitness club or community college or ? I have been recommended to do water aerobics and they are at various levels of fitness for arthritis classes to those most restricted up to water zumba classes which are really a work out!

    Best of luck and health.

  • I love water exercises. So many great books with each condition and water exercises...such as "Swimming with Fibromyalia.
I don't do laps that really is not good for me. even just take like a floating noodle and hang in deep water, water walking is mild form.
I do some stretches and use side wall to help.
