Cervical fusion C1-C2 RECOVERY

I am 3 weeks post C1-C2 fusion with instrumentation. I have neurofibromatosis. I still cannot bend down, without to pain, to pick something up, I need, at most times, support for my neck when sitting. I am tired of being in pain although I have reduced my pain pills. My work is not very happy with me requesting more time off. I am just wondering if I am being a "big baby" because my work said they knew someone who came back to work 2 weeks post-op. I am still having pain in my shoulders and both my mid and lower back. I ice the sore areas daily. How long will this last? I am tired of feeling like this?

  • I didn't have cerfical fusion instead I had lumbar disctomy. My job is telecommute so I was out for 1 full week. It took me 3 weeks though before I could go back to the office. I still can't sit in a desk chair all day. I have to get up every 30 minutes to walk around otherwise I get to stiff. Everyone heals different. You have to let pain be your guide.

For your work just because someone went back after 2 weeks doesn't mean you will. Did you fill out and FMLA forms? (family medical leave act?) - this basically "holds" your job while you're on recovery.
