Help just had transaminal epidural

My consultant couldn't access the nerve root through my lower back\butt so went in up through my butt crack. The local anaesthetic has now worn off and I am still in the same agony I was in yesterday. How long till I experience some relief and what can I do to minimise the pain.

Pain is in left butt cheek, goes down side and back of left thigh, into top of left calf and then into side if my foot and my heel.

I have also experienced minor urinary incontinence.

  • The long acting steroid that is injected reduces the inflammation and swelling of spinal nerve roots and other tissues surrounding the spinal nerve root. This may in turn reduce pain, tingling and numbness and other symptoms caused by such inflammation, irritation or swelling. Also, the transforaminal injections can be used to identify a specific spinal nerve root level or levels that are the source of pain.
  • I always put ice on my back for about 15-20 minutes a few times a day to help relieve the injection pain for a few days. I also had urinary incontinence a couple of times after my epidural injections also as was told it was a side effect for some people but it's only temporary and shouldn't last more than a few days.

It always took about 2 weeks for me to feel any relief but even then only got a small amount of relief with a series of 3 injections. My back feels really weak and can barely walk bent over right after the injections and last time had a real numb leg for a few hours after. I hope the pain eases up for you soon. Do you have any pain meds to take? Charry
