Diabetics and surgery

Someone on here asked about diabetes and surgery. It got me to thinking also, since i am a diabetic. I take pills since i am type 2 diabetic. I know that diabetics heal slowly. But i did not think about the healing process with a 2 level lumbar 360 fusion at L3-4 and L4-5. With 2 incisions, one on the right side of my stomach and one on my back, this is something to consider.

Are any of you diabetic and having surgery?? Mine is in 3 days on September 17th. This is not something i thought to ask my spine surgeon about. Now im wondering how diabetes will affect my recovery time. Let me know what you diabetics think.
And good luck to all of you having surgery in September and October.

  • I'm a diabetic and take Metformin twice a day. I don't think it took any longer to heal from my back surgeries. Now, if I get a cut, those seem to take forever to heal. Make sure you let the hospital know your a diabetic so they can monitor your blood sugar.
