I had my 2 level ACDF on C5-C6, in the beginning of May. I am 4 months into recovery and for the most part it's been going pretty smooth. At my recent post op visit at the 3 month mark, my surgeon looked at the xrays and said Im fusing great. A lot of bone growth both inside and behind the cages.
My question now is; can it be the fusion process that has my neck spiking in pain every now and then? I can be fine for days with "normal" post op pain and aches, especially when Ive overdone it one day. But then I get these pain spikes some days that are 8-9 on the scale and Im in bed with ice and pain killers for a few days. Yesterday it came on me at work and has been building since. It builds up until it spikes and im going nuts with pain.
It almost feels like something is pressing down on the top of my head creating this pressure and burning spastic pain in and around my neck.
Thats why I thought it might be the fusing? Maybe the bonegrowth is pulling and pushing and generates these spikes?
My nerves has been on fire since yesterday and some of my pre surgery symptoms came back, nervpain and weakness in arm.
Scared me a bit.
Can these spikes be from the very active fusing process? My surgeon never said that the fusing in itself might hurt, so maybe this is far fetched...
As always, thanks for listening my dear friends.
