Problems after ALIF survey

Hi im nearly 12 months post op from having ALIF survey on L4 L5/S1, i still have a lot of troubles with standing, sitting and laying down for long periods of time, also now if i do to much or stand for to long the middle of my pain gets quite sore? I am wondering if anyone else has expericed this after this kind of surgery?
I saw my surgeon last month and he has ordered more MRI of my spine dont see him till next week.
Im also still doing physio and hydro therapy.

Any kind of feed back would be great.
Thanks :)

and i too am having similar problems .as you mention also i have swelling of legs and feet especially if i have bend down for something {like unloading the washer} .the last time i saw my consultant he told me that the swelling was to do with the sympathetic nerves being disturbed during surgery and it will take many months even years to settle down .and for the rest of the problems you mention ..don't forget we have both had very major surgery and my consultant told me that recovery could be as long as three years ..yes i said years ...♥.fuison especalit ALIF is very invasive its two operations one an abdominal and then a spinal operation .can you feel your hardware?? i can when i get into bed .my mum had an aortic aneurysm repair and she says she can feel the graft ..its a strange feeing ...if your worried see you consultant again

  • Hi Jess. If you poke around the many forum topics you will discover that standing is a problem for many of use that have had spine surgeries. After 5 plus years, my sitting and laying down are back to normal but I still can't stand for more then a minute or two before back pain and spasms begin. I can walk for miles at a brisk pace but don't ask me to stand in line at a bank or someplace I can't lean on something.

Emergency surgery in March of 2006 for spinal infection of L 2 and L 3. During surgery, discovered I had Cauda Equina Syndrome. Spine became unstable after surgery and had 360 fusion with 10 pedicle screws, plates and rods in April of 2007.
