Im 25 years old. I was a printing pressman and MMA fighter in training when I found out my back (L5-S1) has been broken for a couple years and have developed spondylyosis and never knew it until one day I couldn't walk. There goes my way out of normal 9-5 slavery. Dreams, shattered but I moved on, sort of. Went to have x-rays, ct scans, and mri's done. 2 cortisone injections later, nothing. No improvement. Wore a back brace, no improvement. Pills, pills and more pills.....no improvement. Once all options had been exhausted I had to have it fused. 2 months go by and I was healing nicely. was able to walk and climb stairs rather easily. Then it started. A crushing headache with visual and auditory hallusinations. Cold sweats, shaking, and spasms. Basically it felt like I was losing my mind while having the flu. Spent 3 days in the hospital. At first they thought it might have been meningitis. But after blood work, urine samples, ct scans, mri's and not 1, not 2, but 3 spinal taps they find my fractured spine had ripped a 1/4 inch slit in my dermal. The sack that holds your spinal fluid had gotten cut by a spur my broken lumbar had developed. My brain was drying up so my entire body went topsy-turvy and didn't know what to do. Got that patched up. 2 months later im doing good again. So since my progress was good my spine doctor sent me to PT. first 3 times I was sore, that's to be expected. The 4th time I was hurting, the 5th time im back to square one. Can barley walk again and I feel like I never even had the first surgery. So now im on all kinds of pain meds, again. Can anyone relate?? Is anyone else as unlucky as me? Is this a normal thing to happen to such a young man? Is there any hope to live a normal life?
