Forteo or BMP to help fuse c1 c2 ? Low bone density

I'm going to be having surgery to fuse c1 to c2. I'm 38 and have low bone density...very close to osteoperosis for my age. I need some advice. They want to be sure my bones fuse. They first suggested the Infuse protein so they don't need a bone graft. But after reading about BMP and Infuse I decided to use my hip bone instead. But now that they did a bone dexity scan the surgeon is worried it might not fuse. He suggested I could also do the Forteo a few days before the surgery and continue it for two months after the surgery to help it fuse. I read that Forteo can cause cancer and other serious side effects. So which of the two evils is better? The Forteo or the BMP? I'm still hoping they don't need to use either one. I think I should be fine without anything. I would appreciate any advice out there.
