Going to a PM dr.

Finally today my ortho Dr wrote a referral to a pain management Dr for injections.
I pray my insurance co approves it fast.
When I was at my doctor office today I was in so much pain.
2 weeks of oral steroids did nothing.
I hope the PM Dr skips the injections and opts for surgery.
I need to get out of this pain.
Every day is a little worse. :(

I wouldn't be so fast to wanting any surgery. It has its own set of problems the least of which can be more pain. Its very hard to do conservative steps first but it really needs to be done. Most insurance companys will not allow surgery until all the other things have been done. There are plenty on this forum that have had surgery and are still in pain, or are in more pain. Surgery is not always the answer.

What other things have been done such as x-ray's, CT scans, MRI's, Discograms, Mylograms, PT. What is wrong with your spine and what part seems to be causing problems.

Hope you can find some relief.
  • I went to a PM doc about 2wks ago to get my first steroid epidural injection in the lumbar area. I have a herniated disc in L4L5 area. I have hip pain and it has affected my ankle and first two toes are numb. The PM doctor wanted me to see a neuro surgeon in case the injections don't work or if I got worse. He felt having already seen the surgeon it would be quicker to schedule the surgery if needed. The first injection did improve things maybe by 30%. I had my 2nd injection yesterday. I don't have insurance so am thinking positively that the injections will work. I did use oral steroids in August and they did work. I ended up doing too much bending and twisting and trying stretches that made me regress. Doc had me get an MRI and after seeing what the problem was sent me to the PM doc.
My boyfriend had back surgery about 3 yrs ago. I was very concerned he would be worse off because of the stories I have heard about failed surgeries. He had a successful surgery and was able to return to work. He is still doing well. He tried the oral steroids and the epidural injections first with no change at all.
Good luck with your visit I hope you find some relief.
