Hi, I am finally experiencing less pain after discectomy/laminectomy. It has been a tough road and my recovery is taking a lot longer than I 'd hoped. I am going to ask the visiting nurse tomorrow, but because I have many bad reactions to most meds.the only meds that have helped were 60 mg Vicodin (q. 4-6hrs), Celebrex 200mg in am, and 5 mg Valium at 9:30 pm and 5 mg Valium at about 1:30am. I also do Lidoderm patches. I am now down to 35-40mg Vicodin a day, 100mg Celebrex and 2.5 mg Valium a little farther apart at night. The bone pain at night has been really bad since my surgery a month ago. I still have flares of pain that act up during the day. I know everyone is different, but does anyone have experience with titrating down/tapering pain medicine after surgery that caused new bone pain? I had a very large extruded herniated disc strangling my nerve with sciatic pain down my leg. A lot of bone was cut away and caused a new bursitis-like pain in the pelvis, hip, sacral, upper femur area. I am trying to walk a lot every day and cannot start PT yet. When I try to really cut down on the Vicodin or the Valium, I get bad pain later. Does anyone have experience with safely tapering off these scary drugs? Any tips?
