9 year old with Degenerative disc disease in his neck, help

We just found out that my 9 year old son has degenerative disc disease in his neck. C3-C5 and slight bulging in his discs also. He is very active in sports and we don't know what kinds of activities he can still participate in. Is he at more risk to further the pain if he plays sports? He is on anti inflammatory pain medicine and just starting some physical therapy to strengthen the neck. Any advice from anyone?

  • I would think his body is not fully developed yet so hard to imagine its DDD , If anything disc might be under developed at his age, But only a doctor would have the answer in his situation during his development stage and what action if any should be taken,

With some luck as he grows things will resolve itself without any serious complications, Always good to get a 2 nd opinion from more then 1 spine specialist and go with the dr,s instructions you trust most !
