Posterior Thoracic Surgery Scheduled

I have a posterior thoracic surgery scheduled for January 21. I had an ACDF on C5 through T1 in June 2011. The surgeon will be putting rods in from C6 to T3 and repairing a bulging disc on T1-T2 that is pressing on a nerve. My original neurosurgeon will be doing some cervical work and another neurosurgeon will be doing the thoracic rods and disc repair. I'm new here and guess I'm just looking for any information from anyone who has had a similar surgery or any advice or support for my surgery. I have been informed that I will be wearing a neck collar for 8 weeks and be off work for 8 weeks also. I'm expected to be in the hospital for 3 or 4 days. Thanks to all in advance for any support or advice.

I had ACDF surgery from C4/5 - C5/6 and a few months later 13 December aka 12 days ago, i had a posterior laminectomy and fusion from C3 to T4 with rods from C3-T4. You will wake up in pain and it will hurt severely to move. Keep up with the pain meds in the hospital cause if you miss and or are late on dosages you will really really know it. I spent 6 days in the hospital and was walking, slowly, by day 4 with a walker and climbed 3 flights of stairs by day 6. Im in a minerva brace for an unknown rime frame. I should find out tomorrow at my first followup when they takenout my staples (wife counted 45 of em). Its a rough one, hate to worry you bu it is but honestly I think the ACDF may have been worse only because of the lingering throat problems. Good luck to you and if you have specidics please ask.

    Oh PS
I would ask for something stronger than 7.5mg percocet (what they have me on) it reall helps nothing with the shoulder pain from having your muscles detached for the surgery.
