I am still fairly new to all the spine issues that I have. So far I have been diagnosed with DDD, Arthritis, sciatica and bursitis. I have had 4 injections with the last ones being between L4/L5 and L5/S1. Well next is an Si joint injection. This will be done by the same dr that did the last ones.

Has any one had a Si joint injection and has it worked?
degenerative discs, arthritis, sciatica, bursitis, TMJ, and Fibromyalgia
pain and numbness up and down spine. Right leg is numb most of the time. Both legs give out at times.

  • What problem do you have? What is injected? Steroid?

My SI joints lock up so often, I'm wondering how I'm going to be if there is no treatment. Just crippling.
So I'm very interested in your situation.

From what I've read, the actual cause of SI pain is not known.

I have degenerative discs in my lumbar spine and have had chronic pain for over 9 months since I fell. I had 2 injections and then got sent to a specialist who suggested the injection between L4/L5 and L5/S1. He then suggested a shot in the joint to stop the pain if it continues.

  • I had my first SI Joint Injection on Wednesday of this week. It is Saturday morning, and I am going into day #3. I felt an immediate, wonderful difference in how I have been feeling. My problem is of long standing, and has never been properly diagnosed. I didn't even know the SI Joint existed, and had been seeking an answer to my puzzling condition for many years. I am thrilled with the improvement in how I feel already, and go back for a follow-up with my doctor in a 1 1/2 weeks. My SI Joint really liked that juice!
  • I too have had the injections and even RF ablation in the L2-L6 joints. I go for my first SI injection this Friday and am kind of nervous becuase my regular PM doctor went into private practice, which isn't covered by my insurance and now I have a new PM doctor. Hope it works! Glad yours did!
  • hi im glad ur S1 injections worked, i have been in constant pain day/night 4 the last 4 years, had numerous injection's epidurals and other meds morphine ect, but nothing worked in August 2012 my consultant decided i needed surgery on L4/L5 as nothing was going to work 4 me, had the surgery done on 17th August 2012 for the 1st 4 weeks i was great kept to there rules take it easy no lifting ect, then 1 morning i couldnt get out of bed struggled for over 2 hour2nd January 2013, films showed i had persistent stenosis at L3/L4 and also a disc prolapse at L5/S1 on the right, has i had numerous injections in the past he said not gonna bother with those gonna do surgery again, he felt around my ankle and said the muscles there are weakening and if i dont have surgery soon i could end up with problems there, i av been using walking aids since August 2012 and hes told me to continue untill ive had surgery, only thing hes bothered about is that i was in intensive care after my last surgery due to me having chronic asthma and c.o.p.d (other words lungs are knackered) i asked how long i will av to wait 4 the surgery he said i need it done asap so hopefully within the next 6 weeks, only part i dont like is the hospital i have to have it done at again is over 3 hours drive from me :-(
  • My doctor said that the Injections often work the best on recent injuries. My si joint injections helped for 1 week. I had pain for 13 years before I had a doctor listen to me and got my first injection. I have a second cousin that had an injection 5 months after her fall, and it helped for months. After a second injection, the pain has not come back. I hope you are ones of the ones that are helped by them. Sometimes I think that the people who are helped by the injections don't get as desperate as we do, so they never go looking for sites like this. Maybe if we hear from the ones they helped, they wouldn't seem so bad.

I had my SI injection this morning and had an immediate relief of pain. This lasted for about 4 hours and now feel the pain again. I hope this is a good indicator that my SI joint is the pain generator.
  • They say if you have the injection and your pain is more than 90% relieved then the SI joint can be considered yo be your primaty pain generator. While it is a lousy diagnosis to have, at least now you know where you stand. Let usknow what the Dr has to say about it and welcome to the club!
  • hope your injection works 4 you, ive had numerous 1s and none have worked well im off back into hospital on the 3rd march having surgery on the 4th, having microdecompression and a discectomy L5/S1 is the main problem but need L4/L3 done also, i had to travel for over 3 hours y/day 4 my pre op assessment then 3 hours back after 2 hours with having tests done to make sure im ok 4 the op, the pain i suffered after the journey was torture, grrrrrrrr,r last time i was in intensive care for 5 hours because of my breathing problems, they have said there will be a intensive care bed and a 1 to 1 nurse 4 m again, just hoping i get sorted once and 4 all this time,
