Nervous . . . Surgery #3 ! :-(

I'm 42 wtih sever Degenerative Bone Disease, Spinal Stenosis, Arthritis and the list goes on and on. I've had 30 Epidurals, Cauterizations and injections as well as a diskectomy an L5-S1 Posterior Spinal Fusion with lots of hardware and now am going in for an Anterior Fusion......and they're going to take OUT that old hardware and put in new stuff - through the front now. All because of a NON Union... My spine is now cracked in 1/2.

I'm just wondering....and if you're on this site, I'm sure you've had surgeries too.....WHAT to expect from them going thru the front and removing then attaching new hardware. :-(

To make matters worse? A: Pain meds don't work on me. I've inherited some deficient gene from my father and when I have these things done...it's like going through them "cold" = Full - On Pain,

  • John,

I am guessing they are doing a Alif, as far as the surgery goes. I can see where you would be nervous, as it is natural to be nervous about surgery. Do you have a date for the surgery? If you look around for the words ALIF I think you will find quite a few post dealing with it. But also I think if you posted this in the surgery forum you would get more responses to it as well. It might also help it you use a new title such as revision surgery or alif or if you have the actual name of the surgery they are doing. This helps the members whom have gone through it to see your post to respond. Good luck and I hope this helps.
