Severe shoulder pain after posterior cervical fusion
17 months ago I was in an RTA and broke/dislocated my neck. I had posterior cervical fusion to C5 - C7, with 8 pins and a bone graft taken from my pelvis. I also sustained C7 - T1 (nerve damage) and have numbness to my little finger, ring finger and to the top of my right hand. My consultant has been happy with all check ups but has referred me to pain management, as every day I pain to the shoulder muscles and also going up the side of my neck. I've had to learn to try and not let the pain get me down, as I am a 33 yr old single women with a 2 year old and work 40 hours a week. However over the last 3 weeks the pain has got much worse and I am in constant agony. I am due to have a cervical facet block procedure done in a weeks time, I have been told I need to plot my pain levels on a graph for 24 hours after the procedure and dependant upon this results I may need radio frequency treatment. I am willing to try anything to help ease the pain, has anyone else had any of these procedures / treatments and if so is this going to help me.
I have been prescribed tramodol 50mg x 4 daily but they made me very drowsy and I was away with the fairies on them, my consultant changed these to tramodol 100mg slow release twice daily and even tho I take an anti-sickness tablet with these I feel nausea, watery mouthed and I start to slur my words. I work as a senior support worker looking after adults with autism, learning diff and challenging Behaviours and also have a team of 10 staff to manage. I am currently taking syndol tablets and wearing heat patches which isn't really helping but it does give me a little relief.
Can anyone also suggest any strong pain relief I can buy over the counter until I see my consultant next week. Any help/advice is very much appreciated.
