How long to go back to hard core workouts??

I've already left a message with my surgeon but he's horrible about calling back and my next appointment isn't until March.

I had a disktecomy/laminectomy on my lower back (L4L5S1) on Aug 6th. Recovery has been going good. I'm done with physical therapy and at my last appointment (at 4 months post op) he cleared me to start working out on the machines at the gym. I used to be active in bootcamp style workouts and LOVED it. I haven't gotten back to the gym because simply put it bores me to tears. Bootcamp is the only thing that held my interest etc.

I'm just over the 5th month mark. Would you go back to a high intensity workout? I had 1 minor complication after surgery and that was an infection which cleared up about a week after I went on antibiotics. I've noticed since I haven't been working out my back and muscles are getting stiff/sore.

To soon to go back to bootcamp?

  • I would check with the doctor as if anyone would say go for it and you screw yourself up would bea big mistake,

I am sure your pt person can tell you how fast you should be able to go back to hardcore workout,
Common sense would tell me work slowly up before jumping in to over load and spine backfire on ya,

Dr might say its ok but nobody here can make that call and you take bad advise and screw yourself up,

Glad surgery seems to be working out for you, But dont push your luck too soon, too big of a gamble,
