Cannot function

I injured my back 10 years ago when a 70 pound kid jumped on me. For the past ten years I have had back pain and spasms occasionally, but the worst has been during this past month! It's good to know I am not alone with sciatica pain. Most everything that everyone describes is pretty much it. Can't walk, or stand, or sit for more than 5 minutes at a time. I have difficulty finding a comfortable sleeping position, I toss and turn all night, and IF I make THAT UNPREDICTABLE MOVE.....it feels like someone just stabbed me!!!!! My pain starts in my buttocks, then down my thigh, and the worst pain is behind my knee, and right above my foot. If you've ever played soccer, imagine someone kicking you real hard in the shin, and the pain lingering, and lingering. I use ice and a heating bottle to ease the pain, and also take 1000's of mgs. Of Tylenol a day...doesn't help much, but makes me sleepy enough to deal with it. I have two teenagers and life has been very difficult for all of us. I just pray that God will give me the ability to endure this hardship. I guess, this time, it's my turn...

  • Have you tried aleve which at least has some napresin for inflammation in it along with tylenol? You might do beter with combo of something for the inflammation and then some for the pain,

The least tylenol the beter as tylenol can be hard on the liver,
Flexicore ADR 2004 resulting nerve damage l4l5 Fusion 2006 same level, 2009 hardware removal with lami !
    2012 scs implant ,
  • someone also recommended Tramadol. Have you ever tried that?

Advil has worked much better for me then Tylenol. Sometimes I'll also take Tylenol, but only if I already have Advil in me.

Lol! Got a TXT from my wife. We need more Advil. The Sam's club double pack only lasts 2 months.
  • i didn't know you can take both Acetaminophen and ibuprofen at the same time.
  • I found this sturdy metal "picker-upper" from OSH for about $25. It's the best thing ever!!! It's not like those other flimsy bendable ones. This one picks up even the smallest item from the floor, and I can also pick up laundry and put it in the washer. Since I can't bend down, it's like having a six foot arm! (they should pay me for this)
  • Painattacka: hi and welcome here.

At the bottom of the page, there is 'Popular Health Centres', select the 'Sciatica' one. You will find the info you need.

Please go to a doctor and get referred to a spinal specialist. He will probably say what the doctors on the videos here say. But you will get it from your surgeons mouth directly.

Try all conservative approaches, weight loss, swimming, anti inflammatory medicines, steroid injections (these only sometimes work but insurance companies often require them before surgery), nerve pain medication, etc.

    Good luck.
