newbie member-over pain!

Hey Everyone,
Just introducing myself. I am on here looking for ideas and to connect with others on how they deal with the pain after a fusion.

I shattered a L2 vertebrae in 2003 and was fused together L3-T12. Had the hardware in for a year and then I asked it to be removed as it was poking out. I got some relief from the hardware out with a bit more movement, but that was about all.

I have had to have a career change to find a job that is not so physical. Now I have two small children and work full time I have given in and started taking pain killers again. (I only ever took them for the first year after surgery). I am on 100mg Tramal SR in the morning and 50mg Tramal SR at night. I do have days where I try not to take any, but its hard with small children.

The pain is getting a lot worse. I feel like I have so much pressure on my back above where the fusion is. I had scans about two years and the has been some decay in the area (can't remember exactly the terms used). Constant leg pain (mainly the right leg), sharp pains, aches and tingling toes. Often find myself limping around. I can't sleep very well which is extremelly frustrating.

I go to yoga once a week, but find a lot of the stretches hard and and a massage once a month.

Anyways enough of me, time for a look around the forums.

  • I wouldn't wait much longer, it's worth a visit to an ortho to see what is going on.
