First of all Hi. I havnt done much forum stuff b4 so please bare with me. Im a 38yo f from WA. I have history with my spine starting from a teen, now 20+yrs later much WORSE. I have had frequent bouts of disability over the years, have done physio off and on over the years, clinical pilates, traction, tens, laser, aqua therapy, have done pain clinics etc. Over christmas I was dumped at the beach which has triggered major crippling pain to the extent of my 6yo belping me dry my legs in the shower, aid me in dressing etc. I bought special crutches and was given a walking frame with a seat on it. I also had to quite my MUCH LOVED and needed job just last week as I was off frequently and tired of trying to hide my disability. I have a massive pain threshold but its gotten me bad. I last has aMRI in 2002! Which was relevant enough. L4/5 moderate disc degeneration annulus bulging. Posterior protrusion associated with annilus fissuring. Moderate central canal narrowing. L5/s1 disc herniation. 8mm posterolateral protrusion impinging on nerve anterior and right side thecal sac. Severe discogenic canal stenosis. I have recently gone to a chiro as other treatments have failed and medication hav no affect or if they do, I react. Have started on endone again also having up to 8 panadeine forte a day. My chiro did xrays which showed a very swerved spine, muscle fibrosis, several bone spurs, massive disc degeneration, there was no gap between vert and two others were severly degenerated. A hip also has dropped dramatically. My doc is away on long service and the fill in doc is ....well I will be complaini g. I have booked myself in for a MRI on friday, hoping its not going to be as bad as im expecting. Also will be off to the neurosurgeon in APRIL to see what is recommended next. I am becoming quite emotional and depressed at times as I am a single parent and having finished up at a job I loved so much and needed, financially screwed now due to this. Im, highly independant and so sick and tired of not having much use of myself. I sit on the floor to cough or sneeze, I dont get any sleep as I wake evertime I move in pain. Almost constant tingling in left leg and mostly foot with numbness and desensitised sore butt cheeks blah blah blah. So needed that whinge! Anyways can anyone offer advice on what to do next, how to cope with this, are there services to help me around my home, ive heard disability pension is very difficult to get on? I cant afford not to work but I really cant right now, but dont want to be nagged to work yet! I have worked thru this for years and years, and its time to heal me, just not sure how to survive and feed my kids! Wow that was huge! Sorry :) on a big downer tonight need some support. I hope that in time and wen I know how to get around thks forum I too one day offer support too. Kindness of regardz and TIA

Call your PCP and see him/her this week. If you are to the point you can't walk without assistance, they can work some back doors.... This can also be done at the ER. I speak from personal experience. I had started having severe back issues and couldn't get an appointment with a specialist for weeks, woke up one moring unable to walk, went to ER and as soon as the x-ray came in... the specialist was able to see me immediately.

I thanks for a comment. My doc is away and there is a totally unhearted doc in his place I dont tjink I would even try with him. I went to er last friday night due to increased pain levels. They basically said go bavk to ur gp and go get a scan etc! They were just as useless. Didnt offer xrays/scans tried giving me standard nurofen wich I said 'dont waste them on me' hehe! Thats why I am forking out the 350 to get a mri cos I dont wamt to wait till april. Thanks

It's pathetic the ER didn't do an x-ray. Are you in USA? I'm just shocked by that. My ER did an immediate x-ray, called the specialist who recieved it on his phone who ordered a CT scan that they did immediately and were going to put me through the hospital's MRI, but the area of concern was adjacent to stainless steal hardware and scatters the MRI image. I feel you on the MRI cost too girl! I am having a CT scan done Monday and my insurance copay is $300!!!!! I shrudder to think what the copay is for a MRI. Hope you feel better soon, and if you get worse, drive to a different ER!

  • Hey. Im in Western Australia. Where I live there is no MRI machines locally unfortunately. If I go thru a specialist it will be no cost to me bjt the wait just to see him is April and I cant wait that long. If I get a mri referal thru gp thats why it will cost me the 350 with no medical rebates. Sucks for us battlers! Also as above, my gp isnt useless he is away on long service and the fill in doc is the useless one that told me, u just have to learn how to manage ur problem! Pfft! Twit! Whats he think ive been doing for the past 20years and still trying to do! I just love using my daughter to dress me and use crutches and walking frames at my age! Also cos of my location the hospital
wasnt of much use either. Not keen on travelling further to get told the same thing. I too hope to get somewhere as im really feeling a
little depressed atm. U certainly seem to have lots of metal equipment going on in u? Hope u get some help too. Such a hard road best wishes :)
