Continued Numbness

I had an ESI done in the fall for a disc herniation at L5 S1 that was becoming progressively debilitating. It took about 2 weeks, but between the ESI and the gabapentin I was prescribed I had a great deal of relief. I have since been able to wean off of the gabapentin and my pain is still at a 0 or a 1 most of the time, but the I have continuing numbness in my pinkie toe and the toe next to it and portions of the outside of my calf.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone has any insight as to why I continue to have this numbness even after the pain has gone.
