Need ALIF, but Surgeon said....

I have to lose weight before he will do surgery. I have spondylothesis and that my vertabrae slippage is as bad as it gets. Has anyone else been in this situation?
I am going for a second opinion in a few weeks, but just wanted other peoples opinions.

  • Most surgeons will require patients to lose weight before surgery. Doing an ALIF will make your spine feel VERY weak. The last thing you need is extra weight when your spine is in a fragile state. It’s not something to take personal, but the doctor wants to make sure you have every chance to have a successful outcome.
