After suffering in bed for the last 3 years since my failed spinal fusion, I had a CT-Scan performed on me last week.
I met with a neurosurgeon yesterday morning. He told me that my fusion at the L5-S1 has not been successful.
I was hoping to get the hardware out of my back as a last resort to try and ease the severe pain I have from my lower back and radiating down my right leg to my half numb foot.
During my first surgery my surgeon caused a contusion on my sciatica nerve root during the installation of the cage.
The surgeon failed to tell me this during my post surgery visits with him until I got my hands on the operative report.
After getting pretty mad at my surgeon for him hiding this important information he had his law firm send a letter via a courier to tell me I can never talk to my surgeon again.
I tried looking into medical malpractice but all lawyers that deal with this matter said it was a conflict of interest.
I went into surgery with a left bulging L5 disc and severe pain down my left leg and foot.
After the single fusion 6 hour L5-S1 spinal fusion I had a partially numb right quad and my right good was half numb. All my pain was now down my right leg!
Since the surgery I have been deemed permanently disabled and unable to work due to the severe pain the surgeon left me in. I can walk or sit for 30 minutes before the pain is too unbearable and then I mainly lie in bed 80 to 90 percent of the day suffering. I have had to take one Percocet and one 20mg Oxycodone every 4 hours for the pain. I have to take two zopiclone sleeping pills every night to get to sleep.
The surgeon I met with yesterday works on the same University Spine program as my original surgeon.
This surgeon told me that if I wanted this fusion corrected, he would have to do a dual fusion at L4, L5 and S1 with twice as much hardware and it would be a 8 to 10 hour operation that could have added consequences or it could paralyze me for life.
The pain medication that only seems to work for me is opioid based and causes major constipation The only thing that works for me is Nature's slim tea and stool softness.
I am lucky to go once a week now. After the surgery my Penis goes numb after awhile and having sec with my wife is next to impossible due to the pain. Severe radicular pain causes it to go down
I don't really want to lie in bed the rest of my life suffering in major pain and having to take meds the rest of my life.
I highly doubt I will risk a second surgery!
